I’ve always joked around and said that with the revival of a respectable GT BMX program, maybe we would see a reintroduction of their classic dirt frame, the Fueler. I’m not talking about those shitty 2000s era completes that they for some reason decided were worthy of bearing the Fueler name. I’m talking about a high quality aftermarket frame on par with what you would get from a rider owned company. Well I’ll be damned if I didn’t look at The Union today and discover that they had gone and done just that! It’s chrome like it should be, has graphics that are very similar to the original’s and from what I can tell, seems to be pretty damn high end, though it’s not made in the U.S. like the OG was.
The geometry is a bit interesting in my opinion. 21.25″ top tube, 9.2″ standover, 74.75° head tube, 72.5° seat tube, 11.61″ bb height and 13.5″ – 13.875″ chainstays. That 72.5° seat tube is the steepest that I can recall seeing on a frame; that combined with the slightly steep head tube angle and 21.25″ top tube definitely pushes the front end way out. I’m pretty interested to know how that rides!
Geometry aside, the 2017 Fueler features, a tall 5″ head tube drilled for gyro tabs, top and downtube gussets, butted top, down and seattubes, mid bb, integrated seat clamp, oversized and “ultra tapered” chainstays, removable chainstay brake mounts, room for 2.4″ tires and CNC machined dropouts with integrated tensioners. The weight is a healthy 5 pounds 7.68 ounces of 100% chromoly tubing.
The 2017 Fueler frame is available worldwide from BMX shops and mail orders that carry GT. If you want one of these bad boys be prepared to hand over around $350!
