The other day while helping out at my parents house and I noticed the remnants of some BMX pictures that I used to have hanging on the walls. There’s actually still a poster of Brian Foster permanently fused to one of the walls due to a broken water pipe many years ago. Anyway, seeing those made me reminisce about some of the things that were an inspiration to me back in the day. One of the first things that popped into mind was this cover of the December/January 1997 issue of Ride #25 featuring Robo (the original Robo). I loved this cover so much that I didn’t even pull it off and hang it on the wall, which was the fate of a lot of my magazines. Keith Mulligan shot it and still to this day it holds the title of my favorite magazine cover. Camo Standard, classic Robbie Morales style, the mecca that was Sheep Hills back then, and one hell of a close angle of it all captured by Mulligan. To quote the table of contents, “Damn that boy’s an artiste with the camera… The Robo Show at Sheep Hills. My favorite cover yet.” I couldn’t have said it better myself, and some 15 years later I still agree and still have this issue safely tucked away amongst my cherished belongings. Check out the full cover after the jump.
