I think every set of trails has one of those years where it seems like everything is working against them getting running. For Villij, that year was 2012. Per their words, “Roughly 1 months riding and 11 months digging. This is England I guess.”
I’m extremely jealous of Sam Bates after watching this eleven minute edit that he put together from his 2015 travels! I’d be ecstatic just to make it to one of the places that he visited. Traveling to and getting to ride Gorge Road, Villij and Spitroast all in the same year has to be pretty incredible!
I don’t think there’s a single person who visits this site that will argue with the fact that Deluxe won the internet this week. I’ve always been really stoked on what the brand is about, and I’m glad to see the ethos that Mark Noble created still lives on in Deluxe’s current ownership. For this week’s flashback I wanted to revisit the early days of the brand, more specifically their first full length video release, 2010’s “Welcome to Deluxe”!
It’s that time of year where so many of us are working our asses off to bring winter’s mods together to get the trails running for the season. I don’t know about you but for me it’s one of the most taxing times of the year. The list of things to do seems to never get any shorter, and as a matter of fact it seems to grow just about every time I go out. As stressful as it is, I do know that somehow things will indeed come together and in just a few weeks the woods will be once again buzzing with the sound of cassettes. Tom Cambridge made this edit a few years back and it’s pretty much the end all be all of digging videos. Where as others come across as contrived and boring, Tom’s exudes a sense a pride and determination that provides some much need motivation to power through and get things opened up.
About this time last year I sat down and compiled a list of The Top 10 Trails Web Edits of 2013 (according to me). It wasn’t easy to whittle all of 2013’s edits down to just ten but I was happy with the final list. A few weeks ago I decided that I would keep the tradition alive and put together a list of 2014’s 10 best trails edits. This year was way tougher than last year! It really wasn’t too bad narrowing down a years worth of edits to just ten. A rainy evening, a few good beers and I was able to knock that out in just a couple of hours. What kicked my ass was putting those ten into any kind of order. Rather than putting that list out right away, I decided to marinate on it a bit and take a week to think the list over and make revisions as I felt necessary. So here we are today and I’m ready to present you “MY” list of the 10 best trails edits to drop in 2014. Feel free to agree, disagree, tell me I’m retarded, or whatever else in the comments. Hit the jump button for my picks!
I always wondered if that wild berm at Dagger ever took people out. Now I know that it most certainly does. Luckily Dimitris survived the collision and was able to keep on keeping on with his UK trails trip. He’s also lucky he survived the starts to the runs at the very end. That was some balance beam shit!
John Rogerson hit me up with this edit that he described as “a few sketchy Villij clips from the summer.” While these may not be 4k quality video clips, I think they are far from sketchy. Fuck, I’m happy to see anything from Villij. Shoot that shit with a flipcam that has jizz dried on the lens and I’ll still be psyched to watch it.
Robbo riding his home turf of Villij is absolute magic!
The Kore Store is Robbo’s store in Loughborough, England. I think it’s been open right around a year now selling BMX and skateboard goods. The first few minutes of this edit shows the shop from the very beginnings as well as a bit of skating. It gets really interesting (for me at least) from the 03:16 mark on as it heads away from the city and into the hallowed woods of Villij.
