For most of us trails are done for the next few months so it’s time to move onto the next best thing, bike parks with kick ass wooden rhythm sections. The Wheel Mill happens to have just that and they’ll once again be playing host to The Winter Welcome Jam. Be there on January 17th for a day of bikes, bands, and even some booze (if you’re 21 and not riding).
My ears perked right up when caught wind of Red Bull’s Urban Rhythm Competition that’s going down at The Wheel Mill on December 6th. Taking trail crews from around the region and having them battle it out for $1000 with choreographed trains sounds absolutely amazing. Especially considering that Posh, Catty, Heathens, and Monroeville are amongst the invited. God I hope Posh brings out the Dunny Bunny! In a nod to the movie Rad, they’re having a Wild Card Qualifier before the event that’s open to any crew who wants to try to qualify for the big show. I can promise…
The Wheel Mill has an Indiegogo campaign going on right now to help fund the build of their new pump track. They only need a little over $3,000 to meet their goal and they could use your help getting there. There are different incentives set up for various levels of donation, including a private one on one lesson in the Woods Jump Room with Mark Potoczny. If you’re riding is already dialed in then there are other things like shirts, after hours private park rentals, and season passes. Hit up their campaign page to check them all out and to…
Considering how many people had cameras in there hand, there haven’t been as many edits of the Welcome Jam as I would have thought. Of course there was OURS which I may have a slight bias towards, but other than that nothing. That was until this edit from The Wheel Mill popped up. It has footage of the always entertaining high air on the quarter contest as well as a good bit of footage of the madness that went down on the Science Jump.
The wait is over! The Wheel Mill officially opened it’s doors yesterday. Just in time for people to make a trip out so that they can knock the cobwebs off before trails start hitting. It’s short notice, but if you can make it out today (4/13) you can catch a premier of Subrosa’s new G.U.T.I. video at 8pm. I hear Mulville’s section is all trails! All the info you need can be found on The Wheel Mill’s site including directions, parking info, and even a downloadable waiver. Start planning your trips now!
Mark Potoczny follows and then passes his brother Mike through the Wheel Mill‘s Woods Jump Room. Usually this time a year thoughts of riding trails would be the only thing on my mind, but man I want to go put in some laps on those boxes.
The Halahan brothers rip, as is pretty evident in this new edit for Diamondback. There’s no trails in here but we do get to see some of the first video footage to come out of The Wheel Mill‘s jump room. It crazy to think how big those boxes must be to these dudes! It doesn’t seem to faze them at all because they absolutely kill them in here.
Due to some major ball ups with my financial institution I wasn’t able to make it out to the Vinyl premiere. I was already pretty salty about it, but after seeing the photos of the premiere my salinity level is comparable to that of the Dead Sea. Oh well, at least I was able to get a lot done at the trails. Head over to Vinyl and check out a ton of photos from the premiere and the hangover session the day after.
The Vinyl “LP” DVD is out now and if you’re smart you’ll do everything in your power to be at the premiere. It’s going down on March 2nd from 6pm-9pm at The Wheel Mill in Pittsburgh. Copies of the DVD will be available for sale with all proceeds going toward building materials for the park. Go ahead and mark your calendars now and start spreading the word cause this is going to be awesome! Check out the trailer after the jump if you somehow missed it or just need a reminder of how good this video is going to be!
Head over to Vinyl for even more behind the scenes pictures of The Wheel Mill‘s construction. They used all recycled 2x4s to build that crazy berm above!
