X Games Dirt Highlights

Another year of X Games, another year of shitty TV dirt coverage. Luckily Ride was in the stands filming the whole thing, so we can kind of fill in the blanks that the TV broadcast left out.

X Games – Physics Key to Riding BMX Dirt

I’ll just leave this video from the good folks at X Games here in case you need a scientific explanation of how riding dirt works. The X Games player is funky so you’ll need to click into the post to see the video.

Remembering X with Chris Doyle

With X Games just a couple of weeks away, we can expect a barrage of X Games related content to drop leading up to it. The first to have any relevance to us a around here is this piece that Stew Johnson put together on the D-Man, Chris Doyle. Chris recounts his memories of the X Games from his first one in 1998, all the way to his 3rd place finish last year. Could this be the year he finally gets that elusive gold medal? I’d sure love to see it! Oh yeah, you’ll have to click into the post to see the video because the X Games video player is funky and won’t display on the main page.

Clint Reynolds Is Number One

We all knew that Clint Reynolds was number one, but he’s finally getting that recognition from people outside of the trails scene; first with a NORA award, and now with an official decree from xgames.com. The later comes with the above video compilation of footage, photos, and some very good words about Mr. Reynolds. If you’re on the main page you’ll have to click into the post to get to the video. Sorry, the X Games player is a little wonky!

Chris Doyle Wins Bronze at the X Games!

I have to give a huge shot out to my man Chris Doyle (left) for winning fucking bronze at the X Games! Chris’ riding was a welcome sight to see amongst all the foam pit tricks landed on crank arms. I seriously couldn’t be any happier for him! Got get yourself a really nice bottle of wine buddy, you earned it!

X Games “Practice” with Clint Reynolds

I’m almost positive that all of the other competitors in X Games Dirt have been off somewhere practicing their best maneuvers these last couple of weeks leading up to the big show. Clint on the other hand has been dealing with the deluge of rain that has had a firm grip on Austin. Putting his best drainage techniques into practice has take precedent over brushing up on his front flip whips. He did manage to sneak in a few laps at the freshly drained House Park before returning to the woods to continue the draining operations there. Two X Games post in a row! That’s probably the first and last time that will ever happen.

X Games Preview with Anthony Napolitan

With X Games coming up in just a few days you best believe that they’re going to start cranking out a bunch of media leading up to it. This piece with Anthony Napolitan caught my interest because it’s basically a bunch of footage from Wetlands and FOD with him talking about some memorable X Games moments over it. Works for me!

X Games Dirt Highlights

So X Games Dirt has made its triumphant return to US Soil. Dave King was in charge of building the course and I think he came up with a pretty good one. If you didn’t land decent on the second to last set you were pretty much ass out for the last one. There was a fair amount of panic pedaling going on and even more power cases. Nyquist cased so hard that he got ejected over his bars and all the way to the bottom of the landing. Even more impressive was Pat Casey’s 10/90 case. It wasn’t a 10/90 with his bike though, it was with his face! I might be being a bit overgenerous saying that 10% of his face made it over the landing because it really was pretty much only a hand and an eyelash. Somehow dude survived. Aside front the last set carnage the other highlight for me was Clint not only being in the X Games but making finals. I just wish they showed more than one of his runs. Oh well, that’s tv.

Through the Years with Chase Hawk

I had the pleasure of meeting and riding with Chase way back in 2001 while he was on the Props road trip that they talk about in here. It was pretty damn obvious back then that once he grew into his bike he was going to be one of the best riders to ever touch a BMX. Make your way over to the X Games site after you get done watching this for some good words on Chase and Austin’s BMX history by Brian Tunney.

Chris Childs, Chris Doyle, And Corey Bohan In X Games Dirt!

Chris Childs posted on his Instagram that he got an invitation to X Games dirt in Austin. This was exciting enough but then I noticed that Doyle and Corey Bohan were also on the list. Looks like I’ll actually watch the X Games this year. I need to somehow get up on that judging panel!
