9th Street has had it’s fair share of ups and downs throughout the years, but despite all of them it has remained a BMX landmark smack dap in the middle of Austin. I was poking around Facebook and happened to come across this new drama unfolding with it. I really hope that everything works out for the best! I’m not sure if there’s anything we can do to try and help quite yet but I’ll keep you posted.
“Molded mounds of dirt at Duncan Park in downtown Austin have become a playground and practice site for local BMX riders. The park became a BMX site with no city over sight, and now local leaders are in a quandary over flooding concerns where the park is located.
Duncan Park– located on 900 W. 9th St, just off Lamar Boulevard–sits along Shoal creek in a 25-year-old floodplain.
“For the most part, it’s been constructed by BMX enthusiasts over a 20-year period of time,” Austin resident Dale Flatt said. “Shoal Creek historically floods. Look at the Memorial Day Flood. This site is no longer appropriate for this location.” Read More
